1. Hang out of direct sunlight. UV causes fading, and can make materials (framing, canvas, paper, etc.) brittle over time or crack.

2. Have your artwork professionally framed with UV protective glass. This can help reduce fading, especially if in a brightly lit room. Canvas paintings do not need to be framed, however they should be treated with a finishing UV resistant spray/coating, and dusted lightly with a soft brush, no water.

3. Get your artwork professionally framed with an acid-free matting and backing. This can prevent yellowing, and will hold the glass away from the surface of the artwork, preventing smudging and rubbing (especially for pastel chalk, pencil, graphite, and charcoal works!)

4. Hang your artwork in a damp-free clean space. Even a professionally framed and matted piece can still develop mould in a damp environment, and develop a layer of grease in a cooking environment. This includes bathrooms, kitchens etc.

5. Depending on how heavy your framed artwork is, ensure it is hung on sturdy hooks, strong enough to withstand the weight over time.
